I was listening to the police scanner tonight to listen to any Saturday night action. I hear a “suspicious persons” call come from a familiar street name. I “googled” it really quick and of course! (realization) It is a street name in my neighborhood. I got on my bike and headed to the call location. I met a neighbor standing in his driveway. He just got home from work and saw three guys my size walking around checking cars to see if they were unlocked. Get this…I was there even before police showed up! I rode around for a bit, especially on sidewalks where police could not drive, to see if I could find them. Did not see anyone. If I had, I would subtly alert the officers in that area. Sure, I should have let the officers handle the situation, but I was on a bike and could definitely escape some loony teens if I had to. It was a fun adventure nonetheless. They should just put me in a cruiser already…
I have been working pretty hard lately to stay in shape and lose a few pounds. I have been running a bunch training for a half-marathon in September. After a late night run after I got off from work last Thursday, I stepped on the scale and it read 199.4. That is the first time I have gotten a reading under 200lbs. Sure, I lost a lot of water weight on the 7.4 mile run that night, but I still count it! I have weighed myself after sweating before and it had not gotten down that low even then. Continue Reading
Wow what a weekend it has been! I try to make the best of every weekend I have off from work and try to do something fun. Until Monday, I did not have anything planned for this past weekend. Bored one evening, I was scrolling through my Facebook news-feed and saw a video one of my friends, Dan, had made. It was about the Holler Hoppin Zip Lines in Nashville, Indiana. He is doing an internship there for the summer. I knew immediately that is what I was going to do on the weekend! I found out it was only $30 to zip and made a reservation for Saturday right away. Yesterday evening I participated in something call Trek the Trails. Every Tuesday people meet up to go for a bicycle ride on Fort Wayne’s Rivergreenway Trails. It was a pretty cool sight to see everybody out and about on their bicycles. These rides last no longer than 10 miles at a time. It is somewhat of a slow-paced ride. I think most people like to take in the nature scenes. I do as well, but I think I can do it riding faster than 8 mph… There were some points where there was enough room to overtake the riders in front of you. I believe the front of the pack is the place to be if you want to ride a little faster. About halfway through they stop and take a short break and let everyone catch up. I took some video clips of this ride and put them together. Enjoy!
It just so happens I purchased my bicycle during Bike Month and this week is “Bike to Work Week”. I was planning on riding my bike to work anyway to see how far it was and to see if I could actually tolerate biking to work. So far I have ridden my bike to work every day this week, today being day three. It is not bad at all. It is almost exactly seven miles to get to work from my house. I try to ride on the sidewalks as much as I can on the way to work. When the sidewalks are not available, most of the time there is some extra room on the road between the solid, painted line and the edge of the pavement. On the way home, I take the street where I would normally take the sidewalk during the day. There is less traffic at night. Continue Reading
