Last Saturday I attended my first Komet hockey game of the season. I wanted to go their home opener the week before, but unfortunately I had to work. The last Komet game I went to I believe was last December, so this was a long time coming. My good friend Adam, a huge Komet fan, was welcoming me back to the arena with a good ‘ol bro hug. He told me they made some additions to the arena’s concourse and food courts. I was excited to see how they changed it. They added a pizza stand, an Asian food place, and a burger and fries joint. There is a crazy amount of food options there now. But my all time favorite, the option I was looking forward to most was the BBQ stand. They have something there called piggyback fries. French fries topped with shredded BBQ pork. Very tasty. After getting some concessions, the game began.
It was a hard fought game, but in the third the Komets started to slip. At the end of the third period, the game was tied four to four, so overtime was needed. No one scored in the five-minute overtime period, so a shootout commenced. I always love shootouts, but unfortunately the Komets this year aren’t very good at them. They lost the shootout and thus lost the game. In their home opener, almost the exact same thing happened. They were forced to a shootout after the other team came back in the third and lost. So far the Komets do not have a win yet this year. I am going to try to attend as many games as I can this year. I just have to get lucky and get the right days off from work. Here’s to hoping for a good season!
After working ten days in a row, I finally get a night off from work. I really didn’t have any plans for tonight, so I thought I would just relax either playing a computer game or watching a movie or something of the like. It’s been pretty chilly outside recently and almost feels like we skipped Fall.
Fall is my favorite season, and I will not let it slip by so easily! The leaves on the most of the trees haven’t even changed yet! So in spite of not wanting Fall to escape me, I’ve decided to have a seasonal snack of pumpkin pie and coffee on this late evening. My mom or sister both do not care for pumpkin pie or coffee, so more for me!
I should probably top off this little festival of mine with a scary movie just to seal the deal. Sounds like a plan.
I always keep checking back with the Allen County job postings page online to see if any new jobs have been posted. Recently I applied for a Civilian Security Officer position and a Confinement Officer position for the county. I really am not expecting to hear anything back from them and I’m not going to get my hopes up. That would be really awesome if they would contact me, but I have applied to the county previously for other jobs and they have plenty of applicants applying for these jobs, so the odds aren’t in my favor.
My plan is to apply to different police departments in Indiana when the new year rolls around. Some of the departments have specific requirements to meet before applying. But, most of the time, all that is initially required is a high school diploma and no serious crime convictions. My military and security experience should make my application look better. The more applications I put out, the more likely I will be to get a police officer position.
I will also be looking for any other opportunities for higher security work as well in a more structured atmosphere.
I will always be looking to advance in my career, because there is always a step higher. I really enjoy the law enforcement career path.
Hoosier Hysteria was Friday, and it was pretty awesome. I got to Assembly Hall around 3:30pm to meet my friends that have been waiting in line since 5:00am that morning. Basketball is definitely big at IU and us fans take it serious. There weren’t as many people in attendance this year compared to last year. We were near the front of the line and since it was general admission seating, we got great seats seven rows up from the court. The basketball program that night consisted of introductions of the men’s and women’s teams, a three-point contest, another shooting competition, a dunk contest, and a short scrimmage. After the scrimmage, players signed autographs. I bought a poster to get signed, like last year. I got a total of eight signatures from the players. After that, we got Subway and proceed to the apartment to rest up for the next day.

Can you find me?
Saturday morning we woke up and went to Goodwill. They were having a half-off sale all day. When we got there, a lined had formed just to get into the store before it opened! Alex and Colin are avid “Goodwillers” who go and find good deals often. I bought a couple of books and a computer keyboard. In the middle of our three stops at each Goodwill we had breakfast at Buffa Louie’s. I didn’t realize this wing place had breakfast. I had a biscuit and gravy chicken sandwich with tots. It was pretty amazing and a great start to the morning.
After Goodwill and breakfast, we went to the IU home football game. We played Penn State and beat them 44-24. It was a fantastic game and couldn’t ask for better action. The weather could have been a bit more sunny. It was raining off and on throughout the game.
Blocked field goal!
After the football game, we went back to the apartment to shower and change into dry clothes. The rest of the night consisted of eating a spaghetti dinner, which was delicious (thanks Tyler), watching a scary movie called VHS, and just enjoyed the company. We went back to Alex’s dorm to watch Miley Cyrus on Saturday Night Live. It really wasn’t that funny at all. She is not a good actress.
Finally, I headed back to the apartment to get some sleep before I headed back home Sunday and watched the Colts in a great game against Seattle.
It was a great Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoosier weekend!
Recently I deactivated my Facebook and Twitter account. Why? Well, I am just tired of looking at all of the nonsense on those social media sites. When I originally signed up years ago, it was less complicated and an easy way to see what everyone was up to. But now everything is linked through Facebook, and it clutters up the timeline. I wish people would just use it to give updates on what is happening within their life, but instead plenty of people like to rant and complain about things. It has become less of what I actually wanted. So for now, if anyone really needs to get in contact with me, they will find a way. I have decided I will continue this blog, because I find it actually a viable resource to relay information to others if they choose to keep in contact with myself and my life experiences.
I also find it sad that people don’t have personal relationships anymore. It’s all about texting even if both people are free to talk on the phone. It’s more convenient, sure, but it’s less personal. I try to call my best friends at least once a week just to chat. I think video calling is something that should be more utilized. It is perfect for better relationships with others, in my opinion.
Well, anyway, that would be my rant on social media sites. Again, I will keep this blog going, because this is great for myself to look back on and see what kind of things I have done.
