After a bunch of firing with our M4 Carbines, we finally got to experience some heavier weapons. The two main weapons we got to fire with live ammunition were the M24013 and the M249. Both were hot and heavy. It was definitely an adrenalin rush being posted behind those weapons while holding that trigger down. I hit some targets that were somewhere between 300 and 400 meters away. Two other weapons I fired were the grenade launcher and rocket launcher. Now these were simulated rounds, but it still did the trick. The grenade sim rounds were filled with orange powder, so I was able to see where I hit. There were soe tanks and jeeps out in the field to aim at and two out of my three shots hit the tank. The rocket launcher was a simple weapon to use. With that weapon, we just aimed at some cars. Although these two were sim rounds, it felt really powerful to fire.
Another portion of Advanced Rifle Marksmanship was Buddy Team Live-fire. We maneuvered side by side down a lane with another soldier moving barrier to barrier. We had live ammunition during this process so safety was a huge factor. No one has been injured at a range this cycle. The cadre and drill sergeants do everything to make sure that doesn’t happen. While moving down the lanes, we had to communicate to make sure we had cover while we were moving. It happened so fast and quick, it was over before I wanted it to be. It was exhilarating, and I would do that again as soon as I could. I love shooting weapons. It makes me feel pretty powerful. I’m not too shabby at accuracy either. I’ll probably but my own weapon when I get back home either to hunt or shoot for entertainment… at a range of course.
Until next time,
