Sundays are pretty slow, because they are non-training days. We do not do any physical training or anything else. We have to clean our bays and organize our stuff all day.
Church services are offered every Sunday. So far I have went to the Catholic Mass every week. It’s somewhat of a place to get away from training, reflect, and sing some songs. They offer other religions also such as Muslim, Buddhist, and Lutheran as well.
Sundays being so slow, make time available to think about home and what everyone else is doing at the exact time. Today I’ve been a bit homesick for the first time and a little down about it. Some guys are feeling the same way, so that helps to talk it out with them.
Some people are getting a two-hour pass today to visit the USO where they have free food, candy, video games, and internet available. I didn’t get the pass due to not passing the physical training test for the first time. That gives me the motivation to work harder and improve my score so I can get the pass next time around.
On Sundays we also get a 10-15 minute phone call in the evening. That is the one time each week we get connection with the “outside world.” It’s good to hear my mom, dad, and sister’s voices when calling home.
I have gotten a couple letters so far from my mom, dad, grandma, and aunt. I will respond as soon as I get the chance, if not just respond in my blogs. Sunday is just about over and back to training tomorrow. These weeks are moving quick and I hope it stays that way.
Until next time,
