My posts have been coming slowly lately, mostly because I really don’t have too much to talk about. The end of the year is getting closer and my time to leave home for basic training in Missouri is getting closer. School is coming to an end for the Fall semester. I have taken one final already and taking two more with in the next two days. I am not particularly excited about them, but who is? I am down to two weeks left of work before I am leaving for some time off before I leave Indiana, so I can spend it how I please. I am excited for Christmas, mainly to see family. There is really nothing I want nor need this Christmas. I will be leaving January 15, so I would not be able to wear any new clothes or spend any money I get.
I am excited to leave for training. Although five months is quite awhile to be away from home, I am sure the time will fly for me. I am not quite physically ready for basic, but I have about a month to work on that. Not enough time to get me completely ready, but it will give me a bit of a head start when the drill sergeants start smoking us for any reason they can find. One of my co-workers who has been through basic said I will pretty much come out of boot with a six-pack. I am sure that will be the best shape I will ever be in, and for that I am stoked.
I will be unable to have any sort of technology while in basic training. However, I hear that during advanced training, you are allowed computers and cell phones. I believe internet access is limited though in the barracks. So, here is my plan to continue blogging as I am in basic training to let you guys know how I am doing: I will be able to write letters home. Usually there will be a little bit of time every evening to do so. I can write out a blog of my happenings at boot and have someone at home type it up and post it here. I figured that would be a really cool thing to read.
However, there are many things that I will miss while in basic: my birthday (21), Valentine’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Mom’s Birthday, Kaley’s birthday, Memorial Day, and other things I know I am missing. I will be back just in time for Father’s Day. I have a running list of things to do during next summer upon my return.
When I get back from boot, I am going to look for a law enforcement job. I’ve heard that some departments don’t like to hire military police guys because they get a different kind of training. Not sure about that rumor, but I will try my hardest to get a position in some department. If you are reading this and you have connections to a department: I will be back mid-June, so hook me up with an interview! Please and thank you! I am sure basic will change me as a person, physically and mentally for the better.
If you can’t tell, I am pretty excited for Basic Training. It will be a learning experience and something I will remember forever. I am looking forward to working alongside other guys and gals just like myself. I am looking forward to becoming a leader. I am excited to be a part of something that is much bigger than myself.
