Last time I wrote to you thinking about joining the National Guard. I filled out the online forms and took the pre-general-knowledge test. I have been thinking about it for a while and I have made my decision to join. After filling out a bunch of forms based on medical, legal, schooling, and many other forms of history, I met with a recruiter at the local armory. He answered questions for me and got the paperwork started!
Today I returned to him with my legal documents to copy, such as birth certificate, DL, H.S. diploma, and social security card. Today we got a packed ready that enabled pre-qualification for me to join. I will now have to go through MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station). Here they give you a complete physical and give you the actual ASVAB test, which is the general knowledge test as I stated before. After all of that is complete and I am qualified to join, a ceremony will follow, allowing me to swear-in to the Army National Guard.
I will be departing on Sunday evening with my recruiter for Indianapolis. The process takes a whole day to complete, so it will take all day Monday and I will be considered a soldier for the NG! They are paying for travel to Indianapolis, hotel for the night, and food throughout the process. I believe I will be staying in a room with another recruit who is going through MEPS at that same time.
I am really excited to get started. I decided it will be best if I leave for basic training and advanced training in January of next year. I will finish out this semester of schooling of course. I should be able to complete my training throughout the summer and be ready to attend school again in the Fall of 2013. I plan to keep this blog updated with my experiences in the National Guard!
