The summer, for most college students, is a break from classes and stress from school related activities. It is a time to enjoy free time to do anything that one desires! (Well, legally of course)
There is a wide variety of things people my age like to do during the summer. Most college students try to get a job in their hometown during the summer. Luckily for me, I am living at home while attending college, so I have a job year-round. Some students like to spend their summer drinking energy drinks and spending time in front of the game system from hours on end. (I imagine not much different from what these subjects were doing in their dorm rooms) Some sleep the summer away. Then there are those who take advantage of the free time and have fun! I try to seize every day throughout summer, but there is one problem I would like to conquer: waking up earlier.
When I come home from work on a particular day, I do not get to sleep until about 1:00AM or 2:00AM in the morning. Even if I do not work the night before, I find myself hitting the snooze alarm until 10:30AM or 11:00AM in the morning. Then I turn on my computer and browse the internet for about an hour before I actually start getting ready for the day. I would like to get up at 8:00AM or 9:00AM every day. That way I have a few extra hours in my day. I know I can do it. I just need the motivation to sit up and get out of bed.
I have been thinking I would like to start running early in the morning as opposed to running in the evening. It is a little cooler in the morning. If I were to run everyday in the evening, I would not be able to run on the days I have to work. I want to get a morning routine going. Here’s what I would like to do every day:
- Get up
- Slap myself awake if I needed to
- Eat a piece of fruit and drink a little water
- Go running
- Shower and get ready for the day
I have exercised in the beginning of the day before and it felt really good throughout the day. It kept me energized and alert. It also feels good to know that I have gotten my exercise out of the way for the day. I usually shower every morning and then another shower during the day after a run or after the gym. But with this routine I would shower once and be done.
With that said, I am going to start this routine. I will be setting my alarm for 9:00AM to start with. I know some people reading this probably wake up at 5:00AM or 6:00AM every day for work and are scoffing at me for expressing the difficulty it is to wake up at 9:00AM. Hey, we are young and we live our lives in the evenings!
