I bought a new bicycle! It has been awhile since I have owned a bike. I bought a bike, because I wanted to ride it for exercise, ride down the county roads and city trails, and possibly use it to commute to places. I know I wanted a road bike, because they go faster and there really is not any mountain riding in Indiana. Northeast Indiana is very flat. I am thinking I could possibly ride it to work on nice days. It is about seven miles from my house to the hospital. I think that is pretty feasible.
This bike is a 700c Genesis with a light, aluminum frame. I paid $179, not including sales tax, for the bike. I looked around in different stores, and I thought this was the best price and quality compared to other bicycles.
I like the colors on this bike. I know as a little kid I would always want the bicycle with the coolest paint job regardless of anything else. I believe I got the best of both of those things with this bike.
Along with my bicycle, I purchased a speedometer/odometer. This one made by Bell is pretty nifty. It has a bunch of different features on it. It is wireless, which made it very easy to install. It has the time and temperature. The device also has a feature to show how many calories are burned while riding by entering the weight and height into the system.
In the safety category, I bought a helmet and a set of lights including a headlight and tail-light The helmet is a Schwinn helmet with a detachable visor. I think the visor makes it look sleek. You can set the headlight to a steady beam or a flash. The tail-light can also be set to different settings: steady, flash or pulse. These lights will be particularly important if I will be riding at night or on a dark, overcast day.
I live on the outskirts of the city near the city lines. There are several roads that I would like to travel and view the outdoors. Throughout the city, the Rivergreenway trails provide great riding opportunities and I will definitely be taking advantage of those trails.
If I use this bicycle often enough by riding it to work and school in the Fall when the weather is nice, the bike should pay for itself! I can’t call myself an experienced rider yet, but I am looking forward to joining the bicycle community!
