I am working part-time at the hospital with a .6 equivalent of a full-time position, or 24 hours every week. I work eight hours each day, so I only have to work three days a week, which is enough for me. Even in the summer I like to have time to do things. The pay is the right amount so I can have some spending money and also save some of it as well. I like my schedule a lot. I have every other weekend off. Also, my schedule is set so I work the same days over and over. This way, I can plan things in advance and not worry which days I will have to work in the upcoming week.
In two weeks I work Monday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Thursday. Then the two weeks of these same days just keep repeating themselves. The weekend I do work seems very long with four days in a row, but when I get through that, I have a couple of days off, work one day, then have a few more days off. I like it this way. I can get most of my work days out-of-the-way in one spurt and then take it easy.
Every paycheck, which is bi-weekly, I get 2.8 PTO (paid time off) hours. I can use these hours for vacations or days off when I want them. I have to notify my supervisor at least 48 hours in advance if I want to use them on a particular day. The most ideal day I would take off would be the Monday after the weekend I don’t work. Then it would be just like a vacation! I would work Thursday, have my weekend off, use PTO for Monday, and not return to work until that Friday, the start of my weekend. It takes me three paychecks to earn one day off of work with pay. So basically I could take a week of “vacation” from work every month and a half. Taking this one day would be better than waiting to build up 24 hours of PTO to take multiple days off in one week. It would essentially be the same thing, just more whole weeks of not working and still be getting paid!
This may be the best schedule I will ever have in a job, so I better enjoy it while it lasts. The only negative about my job is getting off work at 11:30pm. Other than that, this set-up is perfect. I am not sure how long I will stay here, but I sure will soak it up.
