I always hate it when I see people begging for money on the side of the road or in the median. The latest cardboard sign I saw said “Broke but not broken.” I was really tempted to give him five dollars of some birthday money I had gotten. I just never know if they are deserving of the money. He looked like a nice guy, but you can never tell between the real ones and the crooks. That got me thinking. What kind of change can I make in someone’s life? What can I do for someone who will really make a difference? I kind of wanted to park my truck and go talk to him. I want to hear their stories. How did they end up the way they are right now? The guy looked pretty young; maybe around twenty-five years old. Jobs are hard to come by these days. Were drugs a problem that led him to the streets? There are so many questions left unanswered.
One of my life goals is to make a difference in someone’s life that greatly impacts them. There is a movie that I have watched called “Pay It Forward” starring Kevin Spacey. A teacher gives his class a semester long assignment to come up with an idea to change the world. One kid in particular came up with an idea to do something drastic for three people who was life changing for them. Then in return they would have to pay forward the favor to three other people, making it grow exponentially. It is a great story and something that I really wish could happen in the real world. I know it will never happen, because people now are too dependent on money and are very greedy.
How would you change someone’s life? Give up your job for a stranger? Buy clothes for someone on the street? Take in someone and try to make them clean both body and mind? I would like to hear your thoughts.
