I have been a runner for quite a while now, yet still a novice. There is something about running that makes me feel really good inside, because I am doing something to better myself. I feel free when I run. I like running outdoors rather than indoors. Running outdoors is fantastic because you get to see everything happening around you.
I have run two 5k races so far in my running “career”: The Great Prostate Cancer Challenge, and the River City Rat Race, both near the end of 2011. I did fairly well in both for a beginner. I want a challenge. Something I can work towards and feel great about achieving it. I have decided (at this point I take a deep breath before I say this) that this year in the Fort 4 Fitness in Fort Wayne, I will run the Half Marathon. There, I said it. It will happen on Saturday, September 29. I have a lot of training to do in order to be able to run the distance of 13.1 miles. Slowly but surely I think I will be able to get there. I know currently I am able to run 5 miles, but have not pushed myself further yet.
I can not imagine the feeling I will get when I cross that finish line in September. I would not care about how fast I ran it because I would be so glad for my accomplishment of its completion.
I have been running outside this winter whenever the weather cooperates. I think breathing the colder, thinner air now, will help me breath even better when it starts to get warmer out.
I know I have said this before, but if you had told me one year ago that I would be doing this, I would laugh hysterically.
I will keep this blog updated about the progress I am making! Thanks for your support!
