Yesterday was the first time I stepped on the scale for about a week and a half. I stopped checking my weight so often. I surprised to see 207.0 on the screen. I should not really be surprised, because I have been working very hard. It is one of the best feelings in the world to see that hard work has been paying off. As previously stated in other postings, my starting weight was 216.lbs. I have lost 9lbs since the beginning of the year! I think there are three or four main things that have helped tremendously in this effort.
1. Drinking water: I always try to carry around a water bottle to keep me hydrated. Before I go to class in the morning I grab a water bottle. I try to drink at least three per day. That equals out to be a little over 64oz., which is the recommended amount someone should drink everyday.
2. Exercise: I try to get outside or go to the gym to jog/run at least three to four times every week. Exercise does the trick by burning fat and calories, as well as building muscle which helps burn even more calories.
3. Portion control: It is all about portion control when you are trying to lose weight. If you want to cut down on your weight, cut down on the amounts of food you are eating. It is that simple! I used to eat three-quarters of a pizza, just because I could and it was good. I am not going to do that if I am trying to lose weight. That is just common sense. I limit myself to the amount of food I take in, especially fatty foods and carbs. After a while, your stomach will not even be able to handle larger portions that you are not used to.
4. Eating small between meals: Keeping your metabolism going throughout the day is also a little something that helps burn fat and calories. I keep it going by eating something small, like a piece of fruit, granola bar, or protein bar. This, and drinking water throughout the day, keeps you from overeating in your next meal.
I have about one month until Spring Break and when this bet will end. If I can lose 9lbs in one month, which I am still shocked at that by the way, then I can surely work hard and lose the last 11 to go! Let’s do it!
