Yesterday was the first time in the new year I headed to the gym for a full work out. There was quite a few people at the gym. There were more than normal. I can definitely say that it is due to the new year and people make resolutions to get into better shape. I do not think I can say I am one of them, because I was already previously going on a regular basis and not due to a resolution to change. I had already started the process to a better, healthier lifestyle.
These “extra” people in the gym will soon die down. Some “Resolution Makers” as I will call them, will not last more than two weeks and I will never see them at the gym again. Some will stick it out for a month or two, but then will get tired of the same old routine and quit as well. And then there will be those who make it. I will see them continuously working out on a daily basis. Those are the real winners.
Over winter break, one of my good friends Francisco came home from Pittsburgh University. We got together, visited, and played video games and whatnot. We made a bet that I could lose twenty pounds by Spring break. Sure! This is going to be easy. That is what I say now! So I take the bet, and here the journey begins. My starting weight was taken on the second of January. This weight: 216.0 lbs. In order to win the bet, I have to be 196.0 lbs., or less, by Spring break. That will be the next time he is in town.
So far, only being a couple of days after the bet, things are going well. I am keeping a workout schedule so I can get to the gym or do some sort of exercise everyday. I found a great downloadable software program that tracks the weight loss/gain every day and puts it into a linear graph and also configures different types of data. Every morning I will weigh myself upon wakening and record it into this software. It will give me a good view of the progress being made.
I am very excited about this bet. Mainly for myself, because I want to see how far I can push myself. If I do succeed, I will be astonished and very proud of myself. But the hard work has to begin sometime…and now is that time.
